Urgent Call to Action regarding Bill C-293

As always, the Federal government's decisions continue to stir a mix of confusion, concern, and sometimes despair among Canadians. I deeply appreciate the courage of those who voice these issues through podcasts, social media, or news platforms. Their insights allow us to form our own opinions and decide what actions we believe should be taken.

There's an urgent matter that needs all Canadians' attention: Bill C-293, also known as The Pandemic Prevention and Preparedness Act. This bill, which has already passed through the House of Commons with minimal scrutiny and only one amendment—which stripped away the requirement to review the previous COVID-19 response—is already facing a second reading before the Senate.

Here is a link to read the bill for yourself:

Just after passing its third reading in the House of Commons, the bill moved swiftly to the Senate for its first reading on June 6, 2024. In my quest to understand this legislation better before drafting an email to the Senate, I came across a compelling discussion between lawyers Laura Miron and Michael Alexander. They provide a detailed analysis of the potential impacts this bill could have on all Canadians if it becomes law.

Other great resources I have found to learn more about Bill C-293 and its connections to global organizations such as the WHO and the UN can be found on the World Council for Health Canada's substack at:

James Roguski, who has dedicated himself to analyzing and informing the public about the implications and potential overreaches by the WHO and UN concerning global health governance, offers insightful commentary on Bill C-293. Here's his perspective:

The Senate began its second reading of Bill C-293 on October 23, 2024. Thankfully Senator Marie-Françoise Megie could not answer any of the questions posed by Senators Platt and Batters so the discussion was held over for a future meeting.

A small measure of good news came out of Alberta on October 24th, 2024 when the Alberta Government held a press conference strongly urging the Senate to not pass Bill C-293 in its current form.

I have now read many articles and watched numerous videos that outline the horrendous overreach laid out in this vague bill. If you type 'Bill C=293' into the search on YouTube there are pages of cautionary videos explaining how every area in this law could have severe repercussions for all Canadian citizens.

Please ensure that you do whatever you can to have your voice heard by all the Senators calling for this bill to be thrown in the trash.

I've drafted emails addressed to the Senate and the Premiers of Canada, reflecting my perspective on Bill C-293.  However, your unique voice is what truly matters. Dear Senators of Canada,

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding Private Member's Bill C-293, sponsored by Nathaniel Erskine-Smith. The passage of this bill through its initial readings, with minimal amendment and without comprehensive committee review, raises significant alarms about its implications for Canadian citizens.

Bill C-293 poses a severe threat to individual freedoms and constitutional rights. As it is written this bill grants extensive undefined powers to public health authorities, global NGO’s and an unelected committee under the guise of pandemic prevention, potentially overriding personal autonomy, privacy, and even property rights. This legislation lacks safeguards against government overreach, a critical oversight given the numerous legal challenges currently underway against the governmental responses to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The bill's broad scope could lead to mandates and regulations that do not account for the lessons learned from the previous health emergency, where both human rights violations and economic impacts were significant. Without having conducted any audit on the plans and actions carried out previously there is no assurance that future actions will respect the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms or the principles of the Canadian Bill of Rights.

Moreover, Bill C-293 seems to intrude into areas under provincial jurisdiction, undermining the structure of Canada’s healthcare management. This overreach not only disrespects the division of powers enshrined in our Constitution but also would create a disjointed and less effective health policy framework across Canada.

Given these concerns, I urge you to deny any further advancement of Bill C-293. You must ensure that any legislation concerning potential health emergencies is written with transparency, accountability, and respect for the rule of law. The government's approach to future pandemics should prioritize the protection of Canada’s sovereignty, civil liberties, privacy, and bodily autonomy while maintaining effective health measures.

For the sake of upholding our democratic values and constitutional rights, vote against Bill C-293. Do not allow for a precedent to be set where emergency powers become a tool for indefinite control over Canadian’s lives.

Sincerely,

Concerned Citizen

Subject: Bill C-293 - The Pandemic Prevention and Preparedness Act

Dear Premiers of Canada,

I am writing to express my profound concern regarding Private Member's Bill C-293, currently under consideration in the federal Senate. This bill, sponsored by Nathaniel Erskine-Smith, poses significant threats to the sovereignty of our provinces and the fundamental rights of Canadian citizens.

I urge you to conduct a legal review of Bill C-293, in its current form, as it appears to centralize powers concerning health emergencies in a manner that could undermine the jurisdictional authority traditionally held by the provinces. This legislation, if passed, would potentially allow for sweeping mandates and regulations that might not only bypass provincial oversight but also neglect the lessons learned from past health crises.

The implications of this bill extend beyond mere administrative overreach. It threatens to erode the constitutional rights of Canadians, including privacy, bodily autonomy, and the protections afforded by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Moreover, it lacks provisions for accountability or independent review, which are crucial for ensuring that any emergency measures respect the democratic principles and legal frameworks of our nation.

As leaders of your respective provinces, you are entrusted with the responsibility to protect the interests and rights of your constituents. Bill C-293, by potentially allowing federal intrusion into healthcare management, could set a dangerous precedent, weakening the federal-provincial balance and the effectiveness of our response to future health emergencies.

It is imperative that any legislation concerning health emergencies be crafted with the full participation of the provinces, ensuring that it respects both our constitutional division of powers and the rights of our citizens.

Please consider the long-term implications of such legislation and take a stand against Bill C-293. Your leadership is crucial in defending the autonomy of our provinces and the liberties of all Canadians.

Thank you for your attention to this critical matter.

Sincerely,

Concerned Citizen
