Subject: Carbon Tax
Dear Members of Parliament,
I am writing to express my strong opposition to the Carbon Tax in Canada. As a concerned Canadian citizen, the Carbon Tax poses significant hardships to Canadian households and businesses, and I urge the government to reconsider its stance on this matter. Any time that taxation of citizens is used to meet a goal in Canada the outcomes have historically not accomplished the stated objective.

Even with the Carbon Tax rebate, I am against this tax for the following reasons:

1. Burden on Canadian families: The Carbon Tax disproportionately affects low and middle-income families struggling to make ends meet. It increases the cost of essential goods and services, such as heating, transportation, and groceries, placing an unfair financial burden on those who can least afford it. These costs far exceed the supplemental rebate.
2. Impact on Small Businesses: Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and the Carbon Tax places an undue burden on them. Many small businesses operate on thin profit margins, and the additional costs imposed by the Carbon Tax could force them to cut jobs, reduce investment, or even close their doors altogether.
3. Competitiveness Concerns: The Carbon Tax puts Canadian businesses at a competitive disadvantage compared to foreign competitors operating in countries without similar carbon pricing mechanisms. This could lead to job losses and outsourcing of production to countries with less stringent environmental regulations, ultimately undermining Canada's economic competitiveness.
4. Lack of Transparency: There is a lack of transparency regarding how revenues generated from the Carbon Tax are being used. Canadians deserve clarity on how their hard-earned money is being spent and whether it is effective in reducing emissions in Canada.
5. CO2 Modelling: As Canada’s CO2 emissions are negligible globally and are argued to already be close to net zero due to the vast boreal forests and undeveloped land that relies on the consumption of CO2 it would be far more beneficial for Canada to concentrate on exporting our clean energy to other countries that have significant emissions due to their continued reliance on coal or wood burning for fuel and heat.
6. Scientific Truth: As of May 7th, 2024, there are now 1919 notable signatories on the World Climate Declaration including Nobel Laureates affirming that there is no Climate Emergency. These esteemed professionals state that natural and anthropogenic factors cause warming, that warming is far slower than predicted, that the Climate policy relies on inadequate models, that CO2 is plant food and the basis of all life on earth and that global warming has not increased natural disasters. These esteemed world scientific leaders strongly oppose the harmful and unrealistic net-zero CO2 policy proposed for 2050.

In conclusion, I strongly urge the Canadian government to repeal the Carbon Tax and explore alternative approaches to be seen as a leader in the global climate initiative.
Thank you for considering my concerns on this important issue.
Sincerely,
Concerned Citizen
